Health Remedies - Hypercholesterolemia

Product Categories

Hypercholesterolemia is a condition characterized by very high levels of cholesterol in the blood. A normal or desirable cholesterol level is defined as less than 200 mg/dL of blood. Blood cholesterol is considered to be borderline when it is in the range of 200 to 239 mg/dL. Elevated cholesterol is a level over 240 and is considered to be hypercholesterolemia.

Cholesterol is transported to and from the cells by carriers called lipoproteins. The two main types of lipoproteins are low density lipoprotein (LDL) and high density lipoprotein (HDL). LDL is known as “bad” cholesterol and HDL is known as “good” cholesterol. The bad cholesterol is the one which is considered harmful and increases the risk for heart attack, stroke, circulation problems, and death. High HDL cholesterol levels (the "good" cholesterol) seem to confer some degree of protection from heart disease.
